Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to what people ask most.
Getting started
- How detailed should the brief be? Keep it short — audience, outcome, tone. Add must-include facts later.
- Genre vs. category — what’s the difference? Genre sets tone (for example, Cozy Fantasy). Category adds the lens (for example, Engineering Leadership).
Drafting
- How much does a GhostWriter draft cost? 1 credit per chapter draft. New accounts start with 3 free credits.
- Is generating a TOC free? Yes. You can create and iterate on your table of contents at no cost.
- When should I regenerate from edited? When your saved text is close and needs polish, not a rewrite.
- Can I reference outside material? Yes — add links in context or use Creator Inputs and Story Paths.
Credits & billing
- What are credits? Credits are your account balance for GhostWriter. 1 credit = 1 chapter draft. They work across all your books and never expire.
- How do I buy credits? Click the credit badge in the header or visit the Buy Credits page. Packs range from 5 credits ($10) to 100 credits ($99).
- What if a draft fails? Your credit is automatically refunded. You only pay for drafts that complete successfully.
- Do credits expire? No. Credits stay in your account until you use them.
Publishing
- What cover size works? A 3:4 image (around 1200 x 1600) is a safe choice.
- How much does an EPUB export cost? 3 credits. PDF and DOCX exports are always free.
- How do I share drafts without giving access? Download DOCX/PDF and send the files.
